"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man.- Gandhi"

What is a Puppy Mill? An overcrowded and repulsive breeding place for dogs to have puppies used for pet shops everywhere. More about Puppy Mills A Puppy Mill is a house or trailer with old rundown buildings with filth and disarray beyond belief along with vile stenches. The rusted cages are filled with dogs of all ages that breed continuously for profit for stores. The heat or cold is never considered and dogs are left to struggle the conditions. Dogs are left to die and often go crazy because of poor quality food and shelter along with lack of socialization. What the dogs go through The majority of dogs, especially females, have infections and parasites because of deficient in liability. These puppies (and adults) have never known love or the gentle touch of a caring hand ever since birth. MOST suffer from skin or respiratory diseases, and the ammonia fumes from the urine has caused blindness in many. ALL suffer from despair and isolation. Females dogs are known as baby machine to breed as many puppies and become disposable afterwards. SEVENTEEN millions of dogs die each year because of pregnancy for profit IT NEEDS TO STOP! It's important to know that, in most cases, puppy mills are not illegal. In every state, a breeding kennel can legally keep dozens, even hundreds, of dogs in cages for their entire lives, as long as the dogs are given the basics of food, water, and shelter. While The HSUS is opposed to puppy mills, The HSUS can not shut down or raid legal businesses. The HSUS is not a government, law enforcement, or regulatory agency. Because most puppy mills are not illegal, we need help from the public to put an end to the consumer demand for their "product." You can help put a stop to puppy mills by getting your next dog from an animal shelter or pet rescue group.
