There is nothing contrived about Elyse Haren. She makes music on her own merit, possesses a distinct senstivity and unbridled rocker passion. She grabs you with the sheer power of her voice but keeps you there with her intimacy and honesty. Creating intelligent unforgettable melodies with something to say, her songs overflow with craft and power; underscored with vulnerability and life truth.
Elyse was encouraged to sing as a child to develop her lungs because she was severely asthmatic, but she credits listening to "We are the World" as a youngster as the place where she discovered the power of a song.
After college, Elyse's life changed at a Fleetwood Mac concert in 2000. As she looked back from the third row at the crowd, she was engulfed by the free flowing energy of the band, the music and the audience. In that moment, Elyse could not ignore the musical voice inside of her any longer.
Elyse immersed herself in music; playing guitar and crafting poetic ways of expressing her most uncensored thoughts and feelings. She taught herself recording, piano and a little bass. Recording dozens of song "demos" in and out of her apartment in Los Angeles, she eventually attracting the attention of investors to match her to make her first full length album.
During the summer 2007, Elyse met guitarist Greg Pajer, bass player/songwriter Andrew James and drummer, Blake "The Pulse" Paulson. The foursome bonded immediately, encouraging her to play piano live (not only guitar), and inspiring Elyse to write new even better songs. Together they have an absolutely unbeatable work ethic and one vision of rock.
Unwilling to settle for anyone but a "hands on" producer, in the Fall of 2007, Elyse set out to find the one who believed in her and the music enough to give the album the attention it deserved. What she didn't know was she already knew him... Trusted friend and producer, Brett Chassen, listened to her new demos and in turn played them for his business partner, Bob Kulick, (Meatloaf, KISS, Motorhead etc...). Inspired by their straight-forward brutal honesty, attention to detail, and can-do, no-bull attitude, the three set out to make the best album possible.
What Elyse has accomplished is remarkable; creating a major label quality album with no manager or label. "Shut UP and Listen!" Elyse's debut album will be available for download at all digital retailers this coming September! Mastered by the uncomparable, Dave Collins, (Linkin Park, Weezer, Soundgarden) the album set to be one of the greatest independent releases of 2008.
