Choose Wisely – free hens from cages!

The RSPCA thinks hens shouldn’t live in cages.

Caged hens have less space each than the size of an A4 piece paper, they can’t stretch out, flap their wings, roost, dust bathe, forage for food and they can’t satisfy their urge to lay their eggs in a nest. In short, caged hens can’t do anything that chooks naturally do. It’s a miserable life. 11.6 million hens live like this in Australia today.

You can help get hens out of cages by supporting Choose Wisely. Visit www.choosewisely.org.au and tell your friends about it. Look out for the Choose Wisely logo at your local café or restaurant and tell those businesses that haven’t yet joined that you would prefer they served cage-free eggs.

It only takes the purchase of six cage-free eggs every week to make a difference to one hen. So spread the word - don’t make hens pay for your eggs. Put the chicken first and help the RSPCA get hens out of cages!
