The Sookie Stackhouse novels include nine titles: Dead Until Dark (2001), Living Dead in Dallas (March 2002), Club Dead (May 2003), Dead to the World (May 2004), Dead as a Doornail (May 2005), Definitely Dead (May 2006), All Together Dead (May 2007), From Dead to Worse (May 2008), and Dead and Gone (May 2009).
Thanks to a Japanese scientist's invention of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. And while humans have been safely removed from the menu, many remain apprehensive about these creatures "coming out of the coffin." Religious leaders and government officials around the world have chosen their sides, but in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, the jury is still out.
Local waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), however, knows how it feels to be an outcast. "Cursed" with the ability to listen in on people's thoughts, she's also open-minded about the integration of vampires — particularly when it comes to Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a handsome 175-year-old living up the road. But as Sookie is drawn into a series of mysteries surrounding Bill's arrival in Bon Temps, that tolerance will be put to the test.
True Blood is an American television drama series created and produced by Alan Ball. It has reportedly become HBO's most popular series since The Sopranos and Sex and the City. The first season of True Blood debuted at a very modest 1.44 million viewers. However, by late November 2008, 6.8 million a week were watching: this figure included repeat and on-demand viewings. The season finale's viewership was 2.4 million. The first season received critical acclaim and won several awards, including one Golden Globe. The second season premiere of the series on June 14, 2009 was watched by 3.7 million viewers, making it the most watched program on HBO since the series finale of The Sopranos. The total number of viewers for the season premiere, including the late night replay, was 5.1 million. You can catch new episodes every Sunday at 9PM ET. Alan Ball has said that he plans to start shooting the third season before Christmas 2009.
