NWTCCA was formed in the mid 1970's in Seattle WA under the direction of Tchoung Ta-tchen, by his senior students. The Old Form of Yang Style Symmetrical t'ai-chi ch'uan Form and NWTCCA System was developed By Grandmaster Tchoung Ta-tchen. It is based on the method of Yang Shao-hou and his father Yang Chien-hou. It has some subtle differences from the more common Yang Cheng-fu form.
NWTCCA is essentially a branch of the Chinese Tai Chi Chuan Association based in Vancouver BC Canada, which in turn is a branch of the Chinese Tai Chi Chuan Association of Taiwan. Grandmaster Tchoung taught in Taiwan, Hunan, Gabon, South Africa before teaching in Canada and the United States. NWTCCA is the Official USA Branch of CTCCA.

This T'ai-chi ch'uan (Taijiquan) method comes from the Yang Chien-hou - Yang Shao-hou Lineage through Tian Shaolin and Hsiung Yang-ho primarily. Tian studied with Yang Chien-hou and Yang Shao-hou. He is also officially in the Yang Cheng-fu lineage. Hsiung Yang-ho was a disciple of Yang Shao-hou.

Tchoung's Ch'i kung (qigong) comes from the O'mei (Emei) Mountain 峨眉山 Monastery in Sichuan province of Western China. He also learned Ta Cheng Ch'uan (Dachengquan) and the Natural School of Boxing.

Additionally Pa-kua Chang (Bagua zhang) and Hsing-I Ch'uan (Xing Yi quan) is taught to supplement the Tchoung-Yang system.

The NWTCCA Curriculum includes:

O'mei Ch'i Kung, (Emei qigong)

Old form of Yang style Long Form (220),

Pushing Hands, Ta Lu,

Partner San Shou Application Form (96),

Tchoung Fast Form (81),

T'ai Chi Sword, Chien (Jien) Long form

T'ai-chi Broadsword, Tao (Dao)

Double Sword,

Kunlun Sword,

Three Power Sword,

T'ai-chi Walking stick,

Tai Chi Spear/Long Staff,

Partner Sword,

Tai-chi Partner broadsword,

Partner t'ai-chi walking stick,

Partner short sticks, double sticks

Pa-kua chang (Baguazhang) (Cheng Ting-hua style),

Hsing-i ch'uan.
