The makers of Fight Klub are in the process of deciding who will be the founding mentors for their game, which I have recieved word that I am one of the first. The founding mentors are basically the first people who may invite others to the game, as it is an invitation only game. Don't let that discourage you though, as mentors can invite anybody, the reason for the invitation only is because you must give another person's name (my handle for the website is Blaiser) when you join, and then you can invite others to play, and inviting others makes you a mentor as well. When a player signs up on the website using your handle, from that point forward you earn 10% of their sales, everything they buy from the website for life.
Okay, so you're probably wondering about the game itself, why is it such a big deal? New and revolutionary? Well the mentor system stated above is only a small part of it. They've taken distributors right out of the equation, making it the player's objective to spread the game. Over the last few years the makers (Decipher, who is known for a number of other successful card games, including my favorite, the Star Wars CCG which was bought out and ruined by WotC) have been gathering up licenses from a number of networks, tv shows, movies, video games to bring a vast number of characters to Fight Klub. After the initial release of the game FM, mentors, and players alike will have the ability to vote for what characters come out in the next set. The players actually have a say in what happens with this game!
Now, I know one of the things you're thinking about is the price and packaging of the game. You probably don't want to spend a ton of money buying up boosters for a game to stay ahead of others with more money who can get better cards. Well, I would say don't worry about that. First off, they're introducing a new way to collect. Instead of buying endless booster packs, they'll be releasing sets in Kilos, which is equivelent to about 10 packs of boosters; the Kilo having 121 cards in it. The Kilos will sell for just under $30, but are designed in a way that you should have a full set of cards by buying only 3-4 of them. The first set, which they are saying will never go out of print, is a single, unrandomized Kilo called One. They are doing this so that there will never be a time when players can't get their hands on the first set.
Fight Klub will also have a 1-3-3 rarity rule, which means that you may only have 1 of each Rare card, 3 Uncommon of each cards, and 3 of each Common cards in your deck. This is so that players who can afford to buy thousands of Kilos won't over power the game by putting several of the same rares in their deck. It really makes it a bit pointless to even buy more than 3-4 Kilos at all. Each new set after One will contain 30 Rares, 30 Uncommons, and 40 Commons. With Each Kilo you get 10 Rares and an assortment of the other cards, so with 3 Kilos you should either have all the rares from a set, or have extras that you can trade to other players to complete your set, which obvioiusly makes it easy to collect as well as play.
I'll be offering more information about this card game as it comes out, and will take any questions you have about it. The release isn't set exactly but is promised within the next couple of weeks. I have been selected as a Founding Mentor, and have been told that new info about the game will be leaked directly to me before anyone else gets it, which means it may be leaked to you as well. ;-)
