Hexen was an awesome game, both in visuals and feeling. And like most DOOM engine based games, its gameplay was better than what many 3D games offer even today.

The goal of the Korax project is to resurrect this awesome fantasy world - and to add more up-to-date 3D graphics for a better digestibility by today's gamers. While it still won't look like a Q3A or a UT, it should look good enough so that you won't be hindered in the enjoyment of the gameplay just because you'd be all the time straining to see what those 5 brown pixels on the screen want to represent...

But the main point of the Korax project isn't graphics. It's about gameplay. Not only is the fight system of Hexen (and DOOM/Heretic) much more enjoyable than that of many newer generation 3D shooters, we want to expand it and add role-playing elements. Thanks to the fact that the Hexen source code has been released to the public, in-depth, radical changes in the ways the game works are now possible. We'll make good use of this.

OUR PROJECTS:

KMOD: An Open-Source Engine
The first playable result of our development of the Korax engine, this gameplay mod allows you to play the original Hexen maps with 3D acceleration and a couple of RPG enhancements (see the list here). As this mod is based upon jHexen, it's Windows-only and needs a 3D accelerator card.

KORAX ARENA: A Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter
This Hexen multiplayer Total Conversion is our idea of how multiplayer games should be done in the Hexen world, using our famous RPG leveling system, combined with deadly weapons, base abilities for every class and fast paced action in fantasy maps.

Korax Arena will feature lots of new gameplay modes besides the classic deathmatch, some of these new gameplay modes will include funny and different experiences for the players involved, from different teams that combine against a single enemy, to enemy monsters fightning against every player, while the players compete against them, a total blast of fast paced action on some known places and new ones to create a whole new experience of multiplayer gaming in the world of Hexen.

Korax Arena takes advantage of the advanced features provided by the base engine, Vavoom engine, to create interesting visuals and making each game a different experience, creating advanced gameplay modes and high AI for computer controlled players, allowing a great single player experience too.

New features (NB: Korax Arena is in a beta stage of development, this means that the game doesn't still has all the features and that some of them can change anytime)
* New maps: we've created lots of places for you to enjoy hunting other players in different gameplay modes
* Scoreboards to keep track of enemy advances and who's the winner of the match
* Besides the orignal 3 classes, we've added 3 more classic characters from other games
* We also icluded classic maps and enemies from other games
* Each class now has 8 deadly weapons to choose how they'll challenge other players, they all work in different situations
* An innovation to the Hexen gameplay, alternate fire for every weapon, using flechettes and discs of repulsion, create blasting combinations with the existing weapon fire
* Leveling system similar to that of KMod, but enhanced to provide a good gameplay session and experience for the players
* Totally new ways of using powerups
* New powerups, featuring the fenomenal PI Damage, feel the power of PI and the classic Shadowsphere, chase your enemies invisible and create tactics to surprise them
* Featuring new gameplay mods: Castle Sweep, Football, Team DM, Team Castle Sweep and Kill the Heresiarch

SCATTERED EVIL: A FPS with RPG elements
This Hexen Total Conversion will feature a sizeable part of the vision with which we set out to create Korax' Heritage back in 2000. While some of the ideas will remain for The Serpent Power, still Scattered Evil will be a full-featured action-RPG. Scattered Evil is using the same engine as Korax Mod, with several graphical enhancements like support for higher resolutions 2D overlays (menus, journal, spellcasting system).

New features compared to Korax Mod: (this is the list of changes between Scattered Evil and Korax Mod II)
* New maps, new storyline: this time you don't have to replay the old Hexen maps; there'll be a world with all-new maps for you to explore
* A journal with information about the world around you; a graphical system for spell-casting; an enhanced inventory
* NPCs and interaction; quests
* several different shops where you'll be able to buy / sell a wide variety of goods
* all-new monster animations and new enemy AI
* A lot of new 3D models like tables, chairs, trees, lanterns, rocks and more
* hundreds of new textures and sprites, new musics
Note: Nearly all Korax Mod enhancements over Hexen will be featured in Scattered Evil as well.

THE SERPENT POWER: An RPG with FPS elements
Unlike Scattered Evil (which is an action-oriented Hexen TC with a lot of RPG features), this project will be an epic RPG with a 3D first person shooter engine, making fight and movement in the world instant and in-your-face. Though this project has been announced in Autumn 2001, development won't start until Scattered Evil has been released to a satisfactory degree.

Once work on this project actually begins, a feature list will be posted. Until then, please be patient and be sure to check the latest news on Scattered Evil.
