***Authors, post your work here (as well as at the WRHAMMONS.COM forums) if your goal is to strut your stuff in front of as many literary agents as possible (but please, no "check out my blog" postings, thank you). And it wouldn't hurt to become a MySpace friend of WRHAMMONS.COM today!***
Welcome to WRHAMMONS.COM's Authors Who Want to Find a Literary Agent and Get Their Book Published Group. The best way to land a literary agent is to do your homework and find literary agents who have represented books similar to the book you've just written. And the best way to do your homework is to visit Bill's List of Literary Agents and Their Authors' Books (searchable by literary agent, literary agency, fiction title, non-fiction title, author's book, and book's author) at WRHAMMONS.COM (direct links to all pages of Bill's List below) and see what agents have represented what books. Based on that information, you can then approach those agents in a professional and courteous manner for author representation.
Yes, literary agents do indeed visit WRHAMMONS.COM, simply because of the fact that, like anyone else of importance in this world, they google themselves regularly, and WRHAMMONS.COM competes well for many literary agent searches. Try it for yourself and google any of the following agents' names:
Nicole Aragi (has represented the authors Pang-Mei Chang, Edwidge Danticat, Nathan Englander, Jonathan Safran Foer, David Francis, Aleksandar Hemon, Le Thi Diem Thuy, Tova Mirvis, and Hannah Tinti)
Virginia Barber at the William Morris Agency (has represented the authors Jennifer Egan, Alice Munro, and Anne Rivers Siddons)
Gail Hochman at Brandt and Hochman (has represented the authors Michael Cunningham, Laurence Gonzales, Ursula Hegi, Caroline Leavitt, Bob Shacochis, Jessica Strand and Jennifer Levy, and Scott Turow)
Albert Zuckerman at Writers House (has represented the authors Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Ken Follett, Bradley Trevor Greive, Donna Leeb and Stephen Leeb, and James Scala)
Molly Friedrich at the Aaron Priest Agency (has represented the authors Sue Grafton, Frank McCourt, Terry McMillan, and Jane Smiley)
Andrew Wylie at the Wylie Agency (has represented the authors George Crile, Kurt Eichenwald, Kristin Gore, John F. Harris, Norman Rush, Jeffrey Sachs, and Elaine Sciolino)
Mort Janklow at Janklow and Nesbit (has represented the authors Jane Bryant Quinn, David McCullough, Michael Moore, Richard Rhodes, Sidney Sheldon, Stuart Woods, and Elizabeth Wurtzel)
This discussion group is for authors who are serious about getting their book published and who know that if the ship doesn't come in, the only thing to do is swim out to it! The founder Bill Hammons is a graduate of NYU, a former publishing industry professional who moved to Boulder, Colorado from Manhattan after seven years at Newsweek Magazine, and an aspiring author himself who, while looking for literary agents for his first novel, saw a need for lists of what agents have represented what books, and decided to meet that need himself. Ask Bill any question here and he'll do his best to answer it.
